Chevrolet Avalanche Recall
Recalls should be known by car owners and dealers as required by NHTSA to ensure safety
of users and passengers. It can be mailed or posted to inform the concerned persons
however these attempts oftentimes fail especially if notices get lost in the mail.

In a recall dated March 12, 2003, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
(NHTSA) announced a safety recall for 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche models. This year
model can develop tear in the mid-frame cross member in times of a 30 degree left
angle frontal impact. Tearing in the mid-frame cross member may extent up to the
fuel tank resulting to possible fuel leakage. Worst, leakage can lead to fire.
The corrective measure for the said recall is to install a fuel tank shield. Notifications
began on February 2003.
Another recall done for 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche models show defect in the body,
tailgate, hinge and attachments of the vehicle. Corrosion, weakening and fracturing
of the galvanized steel tailgate support cable that retain the tailgate are the
main problem. It may lead to injury in case the tailgate falls. The corrective
action done is replacement of the cable.
